Friday the 13th

I, personally, love Friday the 13th. I've never been a superstitious person. I've owned black cats and I've walked under ladders (only because I couldn't go around) and I've accidentally broken a mirror. I've spilled the salt and not thrown any over my shoulder. But I'm sure there are some things that I do that are considered superstitious like saying "God Bless You" when someone sneezes, although sometimes it feels like it's just having good manners. It's allergy season too, you don't have to say GBY every single time...unless you think it will help? hehe

One movie that I always thought took place on Friday the 13th was the movie Freaky Friday. It was one of my favorites growing up. I just loved the idea of trading places with my mom and having a crazy adventure. Barbara Harris always made me laugh with her crazy facial expressions. I thought Jodie Foster was wonderful in this movie.

I have to say that I really did like the remake of this movie. It took me several years to actually see this movie because I was so against a remake of a movie that was great. I really like Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in this movie.

Back to superstitions, one thing I've noticed about old elevators is the fact that they don't have a 13th floor. Well I mean obviously they do have a 13th floor, but they refused to call it 13, they would skip to 14. I remember the elevator in my college dorm was like this. I just think it's funny.

Rear Window

One of my many favorite old movies is Rear Window with James Stewart and lovely Grace Kelly. It's an Alfred Hitchcock movie that takes place in New York and James Stewart's character is a photographer that broke his leg during a dangerous assignment and now he's stuck in his apartment. During a heat wave he starts to watch all his neighbors through his rear window that over looks a courtyard, giving some funny nicknames like Miss Lonely Hearts and Miss Torso. He then notices that one of the salesman's bedridden wife has disappeared during the night and he has suspicion that he's killed his wife.

I have to admit I have not seen any other Alfred Hitchcock movies, but I just love this movie. They did a somewhat remake of this movie called Disturbia with Shia LaBeouf. I just recently saw this movie even though it came out in 2007. I thought this movie was great, it wasn't a copycat of Rear Window, which I liked about the movie, because, to me, nothing can match the original.

The Hunger Games

I read The Hunger Games last week. I had heard about the book about 2 months ago but really didn't think anything of it because it was labeled a teen book. More recently I heard there was a movie coming out about The Hunger Games and it made me take a second look. I figured then that I did, after all, read every single Harry Potter book even though that was considered a children's book. I loved each Harry Potter book and every book just kept getting better. That's when I decided to buy the first book of The Hunger Games series. I have to say as soon as I started it I couldn't stop reading and finished the book in less than a week.

I love the main character, Katniss, she's a protective older sister and I can definitely relate to that being an older sister myself.
The story is about Panem, where the Capitol controls all 12 Districts. Two teens from each district are put in the Hunger Games, one boy and one girl, where they must battle to survive. It's action, suspense and a little romance as well. I don't want to give too much of the story, but check it out next time you're at the book store. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.

I have started the next book, Catching Fire, and I'll let you know what I think of the second book. I am a few chapters in and I am impressed with the story so far. I'll keep you posted.
